Most big U.S. banks keep up to 7 years of statements online, but not all: Bank of America shows 6, Navy Federal 36 months, Fifth Third 24 months, Huntington about 2 years, and card statements often less. This dataset lists 23 banks, card issuers and fintechs, with every figure we couldn't verify marked unknown. Once the PDFs are saved, ZeraBooks converts and proves them against their printed balances.

Several issuers keep card statements for less time than bank statements. Wells Fargo keeps 7 years for checking and savings but 2 years for credit cards. PNC keeps 7 years for checking and savings and about 4 years for cards, on a separate card site. A catch-up or a tax question about an old card charge can need a statement that is no longer online, so save card PDFs as they arrive.
A fictional physical therapy clinic needs its books from July 2024, and it is November 2026. That is 28 monthly statements per account, July 2024 to October 2026, across three accounts: 84 statements in all. The Wells Fargo checking statements are all inside the 7-year window. The Wells Fargo card (2 years) and the Huntington savings (up to 2 years) reach back to about November 2024, so July to October 2024 has to be requested: 4 statements each.
| Account | Window | Download | Request | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wells Fargo checking ...3307 | Up to 7 years | 28 | 0 | 28 |
| Wells Fargo card ...8840 | 2 years | 24 | 4 | 28 |
| Huntington savings ...1196 | Up to 2 years | 24 | 4 | 28 |
| All accounts | 76 | 8 | 84 |
The check: 76 + 8 = 84, which is 3 accounts × 28 months. The exact cutoff depends on how each bank counts its window, so ask for the old months early. Once they arrive, each statement's opening balance should equal the previous month's closing balance; a break means a month is still missing. The month-by-month list is in catch-up-plan.csv.
That is a separate question from how long the bank keeps them, and it depends on what the records support. The how long to keep bank statements guide covers it. The short version for this dataset: the bank's window is often shorter than yours, so download and store the PDFs yourself.

Up to 7 years is common: Chase, Wells Fargo (checking and savings), U.S. Bank, TD Bank, PNC, Regions and Capital One (open bank accounts) say so. Bank of America shows 6 years, Navy Federal 36 months, Fifth Third 24 months and Huntington up to 2 years.
Wells Fargo keeps credit card statements online for 2 years, compared with up to 7 years for checking and savings. Older ones have to be requested.
Bank of America Online Banking shows 6 years. Older statements, up to 7 years, can be requested from the bank, sometimes for a fee.
Regions charges $5 for each statement ordered through Order Statements & Check Copies. Its Online Statements page holds up to seven years.
Back to when the account was opened. Each month's statement is ready on the 1st of the next month.
Upload the PDFs to ZeraBooks, which converts them to Excel or CSV and proves each month against its printed opening and closing balances, so a missing month shows up as a break in the chain. Pricing is $79 a month billed annually or $149 monthly for 1,000 pages a month, with a 7-day trial.
